Specifically, NBA player, Pau Gasol recently earned the "Kia Community Assist Award," which is awarded to those NBA players who the South Korean automaker feels are following a very specific philanthropic standard that's been set by NBA icon, David Robinson.
And just how has Gasol done that, you ask? In a number of different ways. The pre-med student turned NBA star recently helped to forge an important partnership between the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and Grifols, a Barcelona-based global health care company. Meanwhile, he's also served as a 'Hoops for St. Jude' ambassador to benefit patients of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for the last three years, as well as a UNICEF ambassador for the last nine.
"I am honored to receive the 2011-12 Kia Community Assist Award and thrilled that it will benefit Children's Hospital Los Angeles," exclaimed Gasol upon hearing that Kia would be donating $25,000 on his behalf to the hospital. "Supporting children's health and wellness is my passion, and Children's Hospital does a tremendous job of giving children with serious illnesses a chance to grow up and become healthy adults."1
