The all-new Kia Track'ster concept that was released at the Chicago Auto show might look like a fierce roadster but it's actually more performance driven. The model is based on the 2012 Kia Soul, but it takes some of its own creative liberties. Namely, the Kia Track'ster stands apart from its MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) counterpart by adopting a three-door coupe frame, lower stance, and speedier powertrain, all the while maintaining the distinct boxy look that we know and love.
"The idea was to make the Track'ster tough-looking, like a bulldog," said Tom Kearns, chief designer for Kia's design studio in California. "We wanted to base the car in reality so people instantly knew it was a Soul, but with a lot of attitude. It had to be a bold interpretation that would change people's conceptions of what a sporty Kia could be."1
The Track'ster features a 185kW, 2-liter, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, six-speed manual transmission and 250 Horsepower
Sound like the kind of style and performance that you could really get behind? Unfortunately, Kia has no plans to bring it into the world of production just yet. But we're taking that statement with a grain of salt. After all, Kia wouldn't have gone through the process of making such a daring concept if they didn't plan on using it in some way in the new Kia lineup.
