The 2011 Kia Optima continues to rake in the awards. Previously, the car was named a top Safety Pick for 2011 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Now, the award-winning sedan has received an overall rating of five-out-of-five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
To earn a five-out-of-five star rating, the Kia Optima had to pass the organization's new, more stringent rating system. Essentially, the system is designed to make winners more exclusive and we couldn't agree with them more on this one.
Out of the 55 vehicles tested by the NHTSA, only 13, including the Kia Optima, earned a perfect five-star rating under the new rating system. And, compared to 13 of its closest competitors, the Kia Optima was the only car to earn five-out-of-five stars. All competing vehicles are evaluated in three key areas: frontal crash-, side crash-, and rollover resistance. Each is also given a now-standard "overall score".
Bald Hill Kia highly recommends the 2011 Kia Optima to drivers who want a smart-looking, safe ride. It offers beyond-average performance and a starting MSRP of just $18,995.
