Drivers who live in more urban areas don't necessarily need or want a super-fast or super-rugged car, at least not for everyday use. Such cars would be out of there element. And, you can forget about shoehorning your way into that token parking space where the person in front is parked too far back and the person behind - too far forward. Rather, city drivers who stay primarily within their municipality thrive with a certain, smaller breed of car. To make the best options more easily identifiable to car buyers, Cars.com assessed 50 vehicles deemed suitable for urban commuters and developed top-10 list. Among the select few featured on the list are the 2011 Kia Soul and 2011 Kia Forte hatch.
The qualities Cars.com focused on most heavily were: vehicle length, turning circle, driving visibility, parking aids, fuel economy and the presence of folding side mirrors. It goes without saying, both the Kia Soul and Forte five-door met or exceeded criteria on all fronts.
The five-seat 2011 Kia Forte hatch measures just 170.9 inches (about 14.25-feet) long and offers a tight turning circle of 33.8 feet. The editors at Cars.com are particularly fond of the Forte's "well-designed interior...capable engine...extra cargo room...[and] gas mileage [22-25 mpg city]."1
The edgier 2011 Kia Soul received similar praise. Specifically, Cars.com says, "The Soul's boxy lines liken a sort of Mini-Me version of the delivery trucks crawling any city street...The Soul's four-cylinder engine - most trims have a 2.0-liter - gets the job done...and the highly assisted steering comes in handy at urban speeds. The trendy interior will appeal to a certain type of city dweller, with available features that include speakers that illuminate in sync with your music. Not surprisingly, they tend to work better with Lady Gaga than Lynyrd Skynyrd."2 The hard data to back up such a glowing review: 34.3-feet turning circle; seats five; 24-26 mpg city; 161.6-inches (about 13.47-feet) long.
